French toast always feels like such a treat and the beauty lies within its simplicity – and the fact that it works well with bread on the brink of being binned. It’s quick, tasty and all about the eggs, making it a favourite of ours.
- 1 Respectful egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 tablespoon caster sugar
- Drop of vanilla extract
- 2 slices bread
- Knob of butter
- Seasonal fruits, local honey and spoonful of yoghurt, to serve
To make delicious French toast, mix together one Respectful egg, 2 tablespoons of milk, 1/2 tablespoon of caster sugar and a drop of vanilla extract until the sugar has dissolved.
Thoroughly coat your choice of bread by dipping it into the mix. Fry the soaked bread in some fresh butter until glistening golden on both sides.
To serve, scatter some seasonal fruits on top, with a drizzle of local honey and a dollop of yoghurt.
